EA and BioWare have officially unveiled Dragon Age 2, the sequel to last year's new RPG franchise.

As detailed on the game's official website, players will assume the role of a new lead character, Hawke, a survivor of the Blight and a refugee who "rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age."

"Dragon Age 2 will simultaneously deliver an epic story and set a new bar for intense action in the genre. We're very excited to deliver this next bold evolution in the Dragon Age franchise to our fans," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of BioWare.

Dragon Age 2 is also getting updated graphics and a revamped combat system. Here's a small snippet of the plot:

I had this problem long time ago with Battlefield 2: I logged in to my account, chose a server to play on, maybe even played 10 minutes and then the game crashed instantly without any error. This problem only occours to those of you that have dual core procesors (quad core..etc).

Here is what you have to do:

Enter the game, login then pres CTRL+ALT+DEL. From your task manager, swich to the PROCESSES tab and search for BF2.exe . Once you found it, right click on it and select SET AFFINITY.Leave only ONE processor selected for BF2.exe. Get back to the game.
Remember to always do this before playing Battlefield 2. Have fun!

Mob Justice: Mafia II Hands On

That's what happens if you forget to take the choke out.

I got a chance to sit down with Mafia II on PC, and play through a complete mission. Then run on a lunatic rampage around the city. Read my impressions below.

Developers at 2K Czech (née Illusion Softworks) must greet any coverage of Mafia II with a wry, slightly despondent smile. Yes, it’s going to be compared to GTA IV.

It’s familiar territory. 2002’s Mafia was released in the year-long gap between GTA III and Vice City, and was inevitably held alongside for inspection. Both featured large, open cities, navigated in stolen cars, on missions focused around committing crimes. But of course each game had a wildly different intent, using a similar template to achieve entirely different goals. Mafia II has no intention to be GTA IV. So why am I, even in pulling the comparison apart, still bringing it up? Because, well, it’s the first thing you’ll think when you play it.

Along with Saints Row 2, each game appears to feature near-identical animations for dragging a driver from their car, or your bonnet flipping up and eventually spinning off behind you. They’re impossibly obvious similarities. There’s a reason why Wikipedia features a genre called “Grand Theft Auto clone”. However, it’s only a few moments before your brain adjusts, and you realise you’re playing a quite different game.

Beginning in 1945, Mafia II takes the gangster-themed crime capers a decade forward, set in a post-war Empire Bay (a city that mixes East and West coast American themes, blending the watery ambience of San Francisco with New York’s murkier corners). Vito Scaletta arrives back from Europe to discover his first-generation Italian immigrant family is in no good state. His father ran up enormous debts, pursued by loan sharks, his mother now in desperate trouble.

This quickly establishes Vito as a decent man. Much as Mafia I’s Tommy Angelo was a cab driver who fell in with a bad crowd, Scaletta isn’t your typical gangster character. He’s a man recovering from the horror of war, whose family desperately needs money, and via an old friend Joe finds his way into working for the Mob.

After the game’s snowing beginnings, we were leapt about halfway into the proceedings, to a chapter set around 1952. Clearly it was a mission chosen as it does not reveal any major spoilers, which at the same time meant it was a mission that doesn’t especially stick in one’s mind. Beginning with a simple job to sell some crates of cigarettes, things quickly tumble out of control into a series of car and foot chases, and some really rather enormous shoot-outs.

Another reason they may have chosen this mission is the opportunity to show the game’s propensity for blowing things up. Boasting some NVidia tech, APEX, we were shown confusing graphs and diagrams that explained how it made the magic buttons in your machine like each other better and make prettier bangs. Or something like that. Clearly this doesn’t exactly endear the game to those who have a fantastic ATI card in their machines, like me for instance, and are told the game could look more impressive if they’d only bought a different piece of arbitrary hardware six months ago. I would strongly question any advantage in such partisan relationships with tech companies in the eyes of gamers. Anyhow, even without the full extent of these effects (apparently clothes will wobbly about more realistically, and the like), things will still look damn fine when they go pop.

In fact, it’s important to stress quite how lovely the city looks. Ludicrously beautiful sunsets light period streets, filled with individual NPCs looking rather splendid. It’s super-pretty, and will definitely shine brightest on the PC.

We were tasked with getting revenge on one scoundrel or another by shooting a bar to bits with some punchy weapons. This was from outside, watching the wooden boards of the walls splintering and cracking splendidly. Not sure whether this was the game sneakily going through some predetermined pattern of destruction, I decided to shoot at the large lit sign upon its roof. One of the letters I aimed at burst and swung down, rolling back and forth on its pivot. More shots saw it fall completely. Then aiming at one particular area of the building I created a significant hole. This is really real. They really have created what they said they would: realistic damage on realistic materials.

Shooting glass is a little strange, but pleasingly chaotic. I’ve never shot glass, so I don’t know if it really would hold some structure and not just burst and collapse completely. But shards fall in different directions, and eventually the integrity goes completely and it all falls from the frame. Sure, not that big of a deal. Except those shards don’t then quietly fade from existence. They lie there, and continue to be a feature. Throw in a grenade through a window you’ve shot up and when it explodes, those shards blow back through. That’s, well, detailed.

In fact, so very much is detailed. You’ve likely seen the many trailers showing clips from the vast numbers of cutscenes. Fresh scenes repeat the same quality of acting and animation. People still look peculiarly shiny-faced, a sort of army of David Camerons if such an image isn’t too terrifying, but the delivery is fantastic. But more interesting are details revealed in the shoot-outs.

Of course there’s a cover system, and it’s simple to dive and dash between box and car. But in a rare treat, the enemies seem to understand how to use it too. Rather than ducking behind an object and then popping their heads back in the very same spot (it’s extraordinary that most games still do this), they instead sneak around, use their brains, and most of all, stay in cover if they know they’re in danger. Which is of course the moment to take advantage of the game’s fire damage, and throw a Molotov his way, watching things burn.

Also rather fun is shooting at a car’s petrol tank. They go boom! It’s a very effective means for getting control in a fight. Or just causing absolute mayhem in the streets for no reason at all.

Which of course attracts the attentions of the police. And here Mafia II is working an awful lot harder to put in a lot more details. We’re overly familiar with wanted systems, generally a set of stars that represent the scale of how much the cops want to smack our bottoms. But Mafia gets a lot more involved.

Let’s say you speed past a police car fast enough that they can’t glimpse your face, but not quite fast enough to stop their seeing your plates. You’ll get a warning on screen that they know which car you’re in, which is your opportunity to get clear and ditch the vehicle. You’ll be safe. Perhaps someone sees you on foot battering an old lady, and gets a description of you to a cop. To speed up shaking them you can change your clothes, buy some new attire, and throw them off. Then there’s greater scales of things you may have done wrong, which will in turn up the ante.

There’s a deliberate attempt to have the world behave slightly more realistically (well, in the context of a game where you get instant feedback on what the police know about you), with it being completely unacceptable to march down a street with a rifle in your hands. People will react, police will be alerted, some people may take things into their own hands.

Talking of which, one of the moments that surprised me the most appeared somewhere where things were feeling most familiar. I wanted to drive a car I saw, so knew I could go up to the driver door while it was at the lights and press F. I’ve played GTA enough. Vito opened the door, dragged the driver out and pushed him to the ground, and started to get in. And the guy pulled a gun on me.

It’s moments like that which make you realise the extra depth. Such a brief play didn’t allow me to appreciate the promised constant evolution of architectural style and internal décor, along with fashions and technology, as the decade passes. But we’re promised it’s all there. And there was no doubting the authenticity of the setting.

There’s apparently hundreds of licensed songs, changing as the years go by, and we’re told the game can pick out appropriate tunes for what’s happening at the time. I’m not quite sure what it was the game thought I was doing to offer me That’s Amore.

Well, they sent us a picture of some barrels, so we'll bloody well publish it to show them how stupid it looks.

What else did I spot in the hour-long mission? Well, if your car gets too beat up, rather than just having to ditch it, you can hop out and perform a little roadside surgery. It doesn’t magic the car better – it just gets it going enough to get you home – one more bump and it’ll be puffing smoke once more. But you could take it to a mechanic and have it fixed up properly.

And of course being set ten years after the original Mafia the cars are faster, and easier to control. Not easy to control, I should stress. Cornering is no longer quite such an ordeal, but the authenticity gives driving a flavour that means you can’t just handbrake turn your way around without thinking. Road conditions affect handling, and of course finding faster, sleeker models means you’ll have a more entertaining journey.

However, we come back to Mafia II’s very purpose for being. It’s not trying to be GTA IV. So its success will ride on its delivery of a story, and the depth of its combat. From the fire-fights I experienced the latter is looking to be in fine form. Enemies were certainly taking a very silly amount of damage in places, but a good headshot was generally enough to do the job. Plus there’s the fun of damaging the walls and any windows you might spot. However, the story here was unmemorable. Clearly we were coming into a game at the halfway point, so context wasn’t present, but at the same time there wasn’t anything in that sequence that dragged me into the plot.

From the other parts of the game we’ve been shown, and certainly from the (heavily abbreviated) opening scenes we saw, there’s a strong chance that will all be present. And it will have to be, because it will be by this that people will know not to call it a GTA clone.

Oh, and one final test of such a game. Once the mission was complete I restarted the area, and went on a mindless rampage through the streets that managed to shock the 2K representatives in the room. Gathering as many police as you can to one location for target practise is fun. Making your targets the elderly is just wrong. And great. You don’t last too long once you head down this destructive path, but it’s a fun way to find out when you last passed a checkpoint.

Mafia II is due at the end of August.

he year is 2155 and after apocalyptic events, an oppressive government, known as Commonwealth Prime, has arisen, determined to control the planet. Experiments are being carried out on citizens and Agency Zero has broken you out of the lab where you were being processed into a super soldier for the Commonwealth. It is outright warfare as bands of elite agents conduct targeted strikes at the Commonwealth, and with uneasy alliances, vie against other groups for scarce territory and resources outside of the government controlled Mega Cities.

Global Agenda is a massively multiplayer, futuristic third person shooter with feet firmly in both the MMO and the FPS camps, together with a good dose of a strategy game thrown in. The basic game provides instanced PvE or PvP matches and access to Conquest, the ongoing campaign on a massive scale on a persistent world map is via monthly subscription. Conquest features include Agency and Alliance management tools, creation and upgrading of Facilities (Agency housing), a mail system, and a raid system which can involve up to 60 players per side, albeit still played out in team vs team matches.

Players gather in Dome City which contains an arena and administrative stations; that is, the crafting, skill allocation and mail stations, vendors, the auction house and mission terminals. There are four classes in game: Assault, Recon (Reconnaissance), Robotics and Medic. Character development is available via three branching skill trees that players can invest skill points into and each class plays very differently from the other.

The engine allows for some impressive graphics.

Intense is the word that comes right after "Fun" when I'm asked to describe Global Agenda. The high intensity combat is impressed upon you straight from the tutorial as you run the only solo mission of the entire game. The mission flows from cut scene to action and back again as you are broken out of a vat of chemical goop during a strike at a Commonwealth lab and escape to Dome City. An oracle-like female voice talks you through the mission as you gain a melee weapon, a jetpack, a ranged weapon, some basic armor, and a class device. All devices draw from a single power pool and jetpacks suck a lot of juice, so I discovered as I plunged to my death off a building while trying to figure out flight controls.

I would have liked to have seen the promise of early game demos that suggested separate tutorials which actually allowed players to test their first class devices come to fruition, but alas, the tutorial is exactly the same for all classes. The Elite Assassin you have to defeat seemed incredibly hard to my Recon and Robotics characters, showing the inherent weakness of those classes in a one on one fight. At the tutorial's end, you're in Dome City at level five, with two additional off-hand device slots and the class boost unlocked. Unfortunately, there is no place to test the new devices you've unlocked except the Arena, and if you just happen to walk in where gankers are hanging out that day, you'll find that the Robotics noob hardly lasts long enough for a turret to be deployed.

Once you get a good grip on the game controls -- and there are no surprises here -- the game is amazingly fun to play. Combat is skill based, uses a real cover system and directional attacks. You can expect to die, and die often. There's no penalty besides time lost as you respawn and run back to where your teammates are. There's no auto-attack, no AFKs for potty breaks while waiting for power to recharge, and no head shots – a deliberate decision made by the Hi-Rez team as they consider that a less-than-fun feature of FPS games. It takes a few missions to properly figure out what your devices do and how best to deploy them, as a friend playing Assault did with his mini-gun when teamed up with three Medics in a defense game. Slow to power up and with not the best accuracy, once that thing spun up, the other team could not get past the blanketing hail of bullets.

Each of the classes provides a different play experience and there is immense satisfaction gained from a team that coalesces together from the start of the mission. I played mostly in match-made teams and it was gratifying to see players help each other and provide tips as well as players simply playing their class well, each doing their jobs. "We have Robotics? Good. Go two turrets for the boss. Don't worry about heal beacons," was one of the first bits of advice I received in a PvE mission as a Robotics player. In the coordination aspect, the built-in VOIP is invaluable given the pace of the game. "By the way, watch out for the death beams." Oops… too late if that had to be typed.

In most MMOs, you have to read the game FAQs, guides and forums to best understand the nuances and Global Agenda is no different. Although the device point distribution is obvious if one is paying attention, there are no in-game tool tips that help a player figure out things like, how his devices are unlocked or the auction house, or the crafting, and a new MMO player may feel a bit disenfranchised after the exciting tutorial as he wanders around Dome City trying to figure out what to do next.
As Global Agenda is a fast-paced game, classes have to be instantly recognizable and to achieve that, they have unique silhouettes. However, the down-side to this is that there is no visual representation of your character's progression. There are plenty of cosmetics in vanity pieces and in the pretty colors you can dye your armor with, but since silhouettes have to be preserved, there is little to showcase a player's achievements as he progresses through the game.

Where the UI is concerned, there are areas begging for improvement. In the Mission system, players simply join a queue and are assigned to a mission, a map and a team. There's no filtering of missions and auction house items can't be sorted by price. Annoying as they are, these do not detract from the fun of the matches themselves, except perhaps for the inability customize the combat UI. You can't move the team stats from the left top of your screen. If you are playing a Medic, it can be hard to keep track of the life bars of your team mates when you are playing on a wide-screen monitor.

Depending on the mission, teams can be made up of four to ten players but unless you have a pre-formed team, you don't get a choice in the match-making system which can suck. This however, increases the challenge and forces players to coordinate and strategize quickly before the mission begins, deciding on roles and changing their device allocation before entering the mission.

Combat can be fun and frantic.

PvE missions are your dungeon crawls complete with traps and boss-mobs and with a good team can be incredibly easy, but just as you think it's a cake walk, you ramp up the difficulty and find that the easy to kill robots that just stand there and let you shoot at them, now duck and use cover. The Elites (mini-bosses) are harder and more plentiful, and worse yet, there are Hunters targeting specific classes that actively hunt you down. PvE missions really shine at the higher difficulty levels and the fast pace provides a bigger rush than any dungeon crawl I've been on, especially when the Hunter spawns and I know it's after me.

PvP mission play is more strategic and really showcases the skills of the different classes. I often felt less than useful as a Robotics player in PvE missions until the final boss when I finally had the time to lay down shields and deploy the incredibly powerful turrets. In PvP missions, there are objectives other than rushing through a dungeon, killing everything in sight. The pace does not slow, but unique class strengths shine here. Robotics get to deploy respawn beacons and heal stations, while Recon gets to destroy them.

The meat of the MMO play in Global Agenda is the world conquest game, and this is still in its infancy. As this game develops, it is likely to grow into a Planetside / EVE-like environment where the right Agency is what really makes the game for a player. The AvA map is portioned out into a series of hexes and Alliances can contest and hold as small a territory as a single hex, to large areas consisting of many hexes requiring larger numbers of players to hold. Despite the size of the Agency, contests are decided by team vs team combat, so a large Alliance will not overwhelm a small one by sheer numbers.

Conquest matches turns on the pressure as you have something to lose; territory, crafted vehicles and the respect of your team mates if you screw up. I was frankly petrified as the Agencies that play the AvA game are guys that are on the top of their game and I was there as a guest. Despite the time I had spent in beta, I was a noob compared to these guys, who were veterans of such games as Team Fortress/2, Counter Strike, Left 4 Dead and Call of Duty. Me, I'm a finger-waggling elf-girl convert. "Just follow me and keep me healed." "Sir! Yes, Sir!" That I could do. I didn't take a single screenshot however.

I was first attracted by the gorgeous graphics and futuristic world, and then drawn in by the fast-paced, skill-based combat. Skill counts, not just your level and gear. Then there's the strategy. With the wide array of devices available and only 15 points to use, you have to pick the right combination for each mission type. I play MMOs to play with others, not solo and I am greatly encouraged by the number of players that can actually function in a team in Global Agenda. Finally, the jetpack is incredibly cool, as is jetting up close and laying into your opponent with a melee weapon – even as a Medic. Mea Culpa, but it was coup de grace time. Really! Closing Comments
Global Agenda hits the top notes in many areas. The crisp graphics and fast paced, high intensity team-based combat are definitely the game’s strongest points. Both PvP and PvE game play are equally fine and the AI of mobs in high difficulty PvE missions is admirable. However, there are few mission maps available at this time and the inability to filter and select missions is definitely a downer.
An MMO review is a snapshot of where the game is in time as it is constantly evolving. If Hi-Rez can add more missions and improve the UI functions, the likelihood of keeping the more casual player in the long term grows high. As the game stands now, whether you enjoy the game rests upon whether you like the combat systems and if you find an Agency to suite your play style and personality, as it’s all about teamwork and the people you play with.

As for the cliff racers, biting his balls were their bane,

Aldos strangled each one of them, till every one had been slain.

As if to shed a tear for the man, the sky started to rain,

After such an attack, poor Aldos' genitals did not remain.

Now he hangs around Cheydinhal, as smelly as a skunk,

He drowned out his sorrow, and turned into one heck of a drunk.

So remember this story, as all good things are sunk.

Aldos Othran resigned to his lonely life, as the town punk.

Elevator Tutorial

Go to any spot that you can crouch or go prone under.
Now once under it, Turn to the Left or Right (Right Analog Stick)
At a 45 degree angle, Now keep tapping B and move slightly in either direction (left analog stick)
Until you Cant Stand.
Change you Stick layout to ( Legacy Southpaw)
Now slowly move the back to the left or right until you stand.
The Elevator is between the two.

According to its creators, StarCraft II is designed to be the "ultimate competitive real-time strategy game", building on the successes enjoyed by its predecessor, StarCraft.It features the return of the three races from the original game—Protoss, Terran, and Zerg; Blizzard states these are the only playable races in the game. StarCraft II is also designed to focus more heavily on the multiplayer aspect, when compared to the original StarCraft. The changes include overall improvement in Battle.net, a new competitive "ladder" system for ranked games and new matchmaking mechanics—designed to "match-up" players of equal skill levels. In addition, the replay function, which allows players to record and review past games, is being improved. Blizzard has also stated they have made some changes to the game that were suggested by fans.

StarCraft II continues its predecessor's use of pre-rendered cinematic cut scenes to advance the plot while also improving the quality of in-game cut scenes within the levels themselves, which are rendered on-the-fly using the same game engine as the graphics in the game proper. Blizzard states that with the new graphics engine that StarCraft II uses to render the gameplay, they "can actually create in-game cut-scenes of near-cinematic quality".

Most Protoss and Terran units, and some Zerg units, have been shown on the StarCraft II official website, and in several video demonstrations held by Blizzard.Improvements include advanced scenery allocation and more detailed space terrain, such as floating space platforms with planets and asteroids in the background. Small cliffs, extensions, and even advertising signs were also shown to have been improved and refined.
The new Terran briefing system allows the player to explore the inside of the battlecruiser Hyperion.

The single-player aspect of StarCraft II has also been altered substantially from the original game. The Terran campaign shown at BlizzCon 2007 replaced the original StarCraft briefing room with an interactive version of the battlecruiser Hyperion, with Jim Raynor, now a bitter and hard-drinking mercenary captain, as the central character. In a departure from previous Blizzard games, the campaign is non-linear, with Raynor taking jobs for money and using that money to buy additional units and upgrades. Although each playthrough will vary, the end result will remain consistent keeping the storyline linear. Vice president Rob Pardo has stressed that each campaign will function very differently. The Terran campaign, Wings of Liberty, will place players in a mercenary style campaign, as Terran rebel Jim Raynor performs missions for cash. The second release, the Zerg campaign Heart of the Swarm, will have RPG elements. The player will level up the Queen of Blades, Kerrigan, throughout the missions. In the last expansion, the Protoss campaign Legacy of the Void, the dark templar Zeratul will have to employ diplomacy between Protoss tribes to acquire units and technologies for each mission. Each campaign should span 26-30 missions.

Lead Designer Dustin Browder has discussed with Shacknews some of the unique missions that may be included in the Wings of Liberty campaign. In one level, lava floods the battlefield every five minutes, forcing the player to move their units to high ground or watch their units get destroyed. In another mission, enemy units will only attack the player at night. In another mission, the player tries to influence the tide of an AI controlled battle with only a single unit, a Ghost. The single player missions will be highly customizable. In between missions, players can choose units, buildings and upgrades that are not available in the multiplayer missions.

Galaxy Editor[citation needed], replaces the StarEdit as StarCraft II's campaign editor. It will be more sophisticated than StarCraft's StarEdit and WarCraft III's World Editor for creating custom maps and mods. Units from the original StarCraft not in the multiplayer version of StarCraft II, along with units and abilities that were scrapped during the development process, will be available in the editor. Chris Sigaty, Lead Producer, has also stated that the editor will give players the ability to create RPG, Hero-type units and structures resembling those from WarCraft III. At Blizzcon 2009, Blizzard demonstrated a build of the Galaxy Editor showcasing its capabilities, such as the ability to customize the User-Interface to include features such as the Item system from Warcraft III, Blizzard also commented that it would like to include a Third-Person style perspective for missions though it may not be in the final build.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty features approximately the same number of units as the original game. Some units from the original game are returning, some featuring new upgrades and abilities. For example, the Protoss zealot, a melee unit from the original game, now has the ability to dash forward and quickly reach nearby enemies as a refinement of their speed upgrade from the original. Other units have been replaced or removed entirely. Other changes to unit design have been inspired by story events in StarCraft and its expansion, Brood War, replacing old units with new or renamed versions which sport different attributes and abilities.

Units in Starcraft II have new abilities, compared to the original, that encourage more complex interaction with the game environment. Among these are the inclusion of units that can traverse varying levels of terrain, or have the ability to teleport short distances.Some Protoss units can be warped in to pylon-powered areas using the Warp Gate, a slight modification of the existing building called the Gateway. Starcraft II's campaign will also have exclusive units which would only be playable in the campaign and not in the multiplayer modes of the game. These mostly consist of units which have been scrapped from development such as the Terran Cobra as well as various returning units from the original Starcraft such as the Terran Goliath, Wraith and Vulture.
StarCraft II Marketplace

A major new addition to the map-making community is going to be the StarCraft II Marketplace where high quality maps will be sold for a small fee as "premium maps" over Battle.net. The mode of payment has not yet been announced.

Dustin Browder has mentioned that maps like player-created DotA (Defense of the Ancients) in Warcraft III would meet the quality requirements to be branded as a premium map.

2009 was a banner year for video games -- but 2010's lining up to be even better. We're expecting a packed calendar of awesome releases right from the first few weeks of the year. Here are the ones that have us hot under the collar.

Mass Effect 2:

Fresh from releasing our role-playing game of the year, Dragon Age, Bioware's hoping to make it two for two with a sequel to its 2007 interstellar smash. Featuring voice acting from the likes of Martin Sheen, Carrie-Ann Moss, and Seth Green, it's a high-budget space opera you won't want to miss. And you won't have to wait long, either: you'll see it in stores starting Jan 26.

God of War 3:

What could God of War star Kratos do with a Playstation 3? We dread to think -- but he'll get his chance this year when he's unleashed on Sony's powerful platform for the first time. Expect epic battles, mythological beasts, tons of crazy moves -- oh, and blood. Lots and lots of blood. Look for it in March.

Star Trek Online:

Can't get enough space? Then step into the shoes of a Starfleet captain (or a Klingon warlord) and make it so in this beautiful massively-multiplayer online game. Featuring planet-side and starship combat -- and the dulcet tones of Zachary Quinto -- it's due on February 2.

Splinter Cell: Conviction

After repeated delays, Sam Fisher's latest game will finally break out this year. And it's looking awesome. The plot sees the super spy going renegade in an attempt to thwart a terrorist plot and uncover the truth behind his daughter's death. Expect it to make a stealthy appearance on February 23.

Gran Turismo 5:

There's no bigger name in racing than Gran Turismo -- and there's no racer more anticipated than this fifth in the series. Another oft-delayed big name, U.S. gamers will finally be able to kick the tires and light the fires this March.

Halo: Reach

Starring a squad of alien-zapping Spartan soldiers called 'Noble Team', Halo: Reach is bound to be one of the biggest games of the year. Will it match up to the series' A-list name? Not much of a reach, we think, and we'll find out for sure in the fall.

Methroid: Other M

One of Nintendo's most critically acclaimed franchises will continue in 2010 with the release of Metroid: Other M. It'll delve deeper into star Samus's past, blend both two- and three-dimensional scenes, and should be out sometime later in the year.

Final Fantasy XIII

Latest in this long-running and dearly-beloved series of role-playing games, Final Fantasy XIII is boasting an overhauled battle system, superb visuals, and a story that's sure to engross. It'll be out on both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 9.

BioShok 2

Can BioShock 2 deliver the same storytelling finesse that earned its predecessor so much praise? What happened to the underwater city of Rapture after the first game ended? Where did Big Daddies come from? Would you kindly stop asking so many questions? All will be revealed on February 9.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

If Star Trek's not quite your speed, there's another big-league massively-multiplayer sci-fi title due out this year. Set some 3,500 years before the movies, Star Wars: The Old Republic promises to bring full-bore Jedi-versus-Sith action to your PC -- and hopefully before the end of the year.

Red Dead Redemption

Think of Red Dead Redemption as Grand Theft Auto IV transported to the Wild West, circa 1908. If that doesn't have your blood racing, you ain't no friend of ours, pardner. The rootin' (and tootin', and shootin') starts April 27.

Starcraft 2:

Sequel to the most popular and successful strategy game ever made, Starcraft II is sure to make waves in the U.S. -- but it'll make bigger ones in South Korea, where the decade-old game is still a national obsession. There's no official release date for Starcraft II yet, but we'd expect to see it drop around the fall.
